Tunisia's Beaches and Islands

Resort coastline and an island with its own slower rhythm.

Hammamet is Tunisia's classic package-holiday coast — big resorts, a walkable old medina, and an easy 1-hour drive from Tunis. Djerba is a genuinely different pace: an island off the south coast with its own causeway, whitewashed architecture, pottery villages, and direct international flights that skip Tunis entirely. Both are safe, well-established tourist areas.

Tunisia's coastline does exactly what a Mediterranean beach trip is supposed to do, for noticeably less money than Greece, Italy, or southern Spain — and then it throws in an actual island with its own personality, an hour's flight from the mainland if you'd rather skip Tunis altogether.

Questions people actually ask

Hammamet or Djerba — which should I pick?
Hammamet if you want an easy resort trip close to Tunis and Carthage. Djerba if you want a standalone island trip with its own airport, a slower pace, and more distinct architecture and craft traditions (pottery, weaving).
Is the water actually warm in Tunisia?
Yes, for a good stretch of the year — the Mediterranean here runs comfortably swimmable from around June through October, warmest in August.
Are Tunisia's beach resorts family-friendly?
Very much so — Hammamet and Djerba both built their tourism industry around European family package holidays, so you'll find kids' clubs, shallow swimming areas, and all-inclusive resorts as standard options.
