Phi Phi Islands day trip
A speedboat day trip to the Phi Phi Islands — limestone cliffs, Maya Bay, and some of the clearest water in the country — is Phuket's single most popular excursion. Book a smaller-boat tour if you can; the large group tours hit the same three spots at the same crowded times.

When to visit
Dry season is roughly November through April, with December–February being the most pleasant (and busiest, and priciest). May–October is the rainy season on the Andaman coast — showers are often short afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain, but rough seas can cancel boat trips.

- Booking a hotel in Patong expecting a quiet family beach — check which strip you're actually on.
- Skipping travel insurance that covers scooter accidents — most standard policies exclude scooters unless you add it, and Phuket's roads are busier than they look.
- Assuming every beach is calm and swimmable year-round — some southern beaches get rough waves and rip currents in monsoon season; check flag warnings.
